 Regional Program
Trans-boundary water resources of Northeast Africa

Research and Advocacy on Water Resources and Livelihoods of People and Communities of Trans-boundary River Basins of Northeastern Africa and Conflict Risk:  This project was designed to facilitate dialogue on trans-boundary water resources, economic, social and human rights and conflict prevention in Northern Africa at the local, national and regional levels.  A review of literature on the topic was compiled and analyzed while date on developing water resources and enhancing livelihoods was collected by different stakeholders. Additionally, an annotated bibliography was prepared to allow a quick reference to the essential themes of the document.  The terms of reference and a proposal for conducting additional activities to study affected communities and water resource development were developed but due to financial constraints additional activities are yet to be commissioned.

In connection to the project, IAG organized a launching ceremony for a book entitled, “The Political Economy of the Nile Basin Regime in the 20th Century,” by Dr. Aaron Tesfaye on 18th June 2009 in Addis Ababa. The event included a discussion with scholars from the Nile Basin Initiative Office and Addis Ababa University.
