News on Conferences

A second in the series of conferences as part of the Human Security program was held on the 1-2 September 2008.  The title of the conference on the Prevailing Interlocked Peace and Security Conundrum in the Horn of Africa was organized by IAG and took place in Addis Ababa at the UNECA conference centre.  This was attended by representatives from Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, Eriteria, Kenya, Europe and America.

Different papers on the interlocked conflicts in the Horn were presented.  The deadlock between Ethiopia and Eriteria;  the state of the Darfur problem;  the complex crisis in Somalia;  the interrelated security challenges of Kenya and Uganda;  and the IGAD peace process all formed the discussion during the two days.  At the end of the second day of the meeting a policy recommendation was reached which will feed into the third upcoming conference that will be held in 2009.
